The St. Francis of Assisi Choir rehearses on Wednesdays, 7:30-9:15 p.m., September through June, and sings at the Sunday 9:00 a.m. mass and special liturgies throughout the year.
In the wake of Vatican II, the St. Francis Choir joined the music ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas with the mission of providing music for worship in the then-new genre of sacred folk music. While remaining true to its folk choir roots, the St. Francis Choir of today has added the sweet harmonies of three and four-part singing and accompaniment by piano, organ, flute, cello and a mix of percussion instruments in addition to guitar. In addition to an extensive repertoire by post-Vatican II composers, the choir now sings traditional sacred choral repertoire from all periods of church history, as well as music of cultures around the world, American hymnody, and gospel music.
